The Gulf War.
The Life Guards deployed the entire Regiment to the Gulf in 1990 on Operation GRANBY in December 1990 as part of the 4th Armoured Brigade, dessert rats. After intensive training in Germany, 'A' Squadron flew initially to Saudi Arabia, late in 1990 - subsequently followed by 'B' and 'C' Squadrons - from where their Challenger 1 MkII tanks played a vital role in the Gulf War. A Sqaudron complimented The 14/20th Kings Hussars regiment as the fourth Sqaudron with a combined total of 59 Challenger Tanks
'A Squadron' took part in the 100-hour ground assault into Iraq commanded by Major James Hewitt (Mentioned in dispatches for his leadership) finishing up astride the Kuwait City - Basra highroad, whilst the remainder of the regiment provided battle casualty support.
